Summary

We developed three VR training modules for an automotive client to upskill technicians in Electric Vehicle (EV) servicing, including parts identification, charging SOPs, and manual service disconnectors. This immersive training boosted knowledge retention and safety awareness through highly realistic simulations.

Objective

To upskill service technicians and employees by offering immersive, hands-on training on Electric Vehicle (EV) systems, charging procedures, and manual service disconnection using VR technology.

With the introduction of EV trucks in their product lineup, the client identified a critical need to train its workforce on

    As Electric Vehicles are a new domain for many technicians and workers, there was a noticeable knowledge gap in the following areas

  • Identifying EV-specific components in the vehicle,
  • Understanding and performing the correct vehicle charging process,
  • Knowing how to safely remove and reinsert the Manual Service Disconnect (MSD) during service or emergency,
  • Conventional classroom or video-based training proved insufficient for building the necessary hands-on understanding.

    Solution Provided

    We developed three interactive Virtual Reality (VR) training modules, designed to simulate real-life scenarios using a highly realistic virtual EV truck model

    Module 1: EV Parts Identification

  • A full 3D EV truck model with interactive hotspots
  • Technicians explore EV components (e.g., battery pack, inverter, electric motor),
  • Audio and text-based information pop-ups for each part,
  • Module 2: Charging SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)

  • Step-by-step guided experience at a virtual EV charging station,
  • Learner is guided through the correct process to safely charge the vehicle,
  • Interactive elements reinforce each step of the SOP,
  • Module 3: Manual Service Disconnector (MSD)

  • Hands-on VR experience simulating the removal and reinsertion of the MSD,
  • Users perform tasks such as PPE check, disconnecting high voltage, and refitting post-service,
